序数词暗示排列的顺序，简单说就是第一、第二、第三。它的缩写形式为数词加数词的最初两个字母，
如：first—1st; second—2nd; third—3rd; thirty-first一31st。
1. 基数词变成序数词的法则
1) 第1至第19 —般是在基数词后加th，如six-sixth；但变化特别的有：one—first, two—second, three—third, eight—eighth,nine—ninth, five-fifth,twelve—twelfth。
2）逢十的twenty, thirty... ninety,别离改y为ieth
twenty—twentieth, ninety—ninetieth
3）暗示第几十几或第几百几十几，只需将个位数改成序数词

2.序数词与冠词
1）序数词前一般要加定冠词the。
It's the third time I've been here.
这是我第三次来这里。
My birthday is on the third of May.
我的生日在5月3日
2）暗示在原本的根本上增加，即“又一，再一”时，用不定冠词。
Shall I ask her a third time?我还要问她一次吗？
3）以下4种情况不用冠词
①序数词前已有物主代词或名词一切格时，不能再用冠词
This is Tom's second visit to China.
这是汤姆第二次拜候中国。
②暗示角逐或考试的名词时，凡是省略定冠词
He was（the）second in the English exam.
在此次英语考试中他得了第二名。
③序数词被用作副词时不用冠词
l have to finish my homework first.
我得先把作业完成好。
④在某些习语中不用冠词

★ 基数词变序数词小口诀：
123全要变，first, second, third；
剩下要加th,不外8加h, 9去e;
ve结尾变f(th);
ty结尾变tie(th);
若你要数到20以上，只需变化个位数。
★有些数字在变化时易混淆，—定要服膺这些出格轻易混淆的词。

3. 序数词的用法
1.数学范畴中的数字
1）分数
1/3 one-third
2/3 two-thirds
3/5 three-fifths
分数的暗示方式实在也很简单，份子是基数词，而分母是序数词。而且，当份子是1时，分母就是序数词；而当份子大于1时，分母就要酿成了序数词的复数，如：3/10—three-tenths。
2）小数
当我们碰到有小数点的数字时，只要把数字用基数词的方式读出，碰到小数点时加入单词“point"即可，如：
3.14(three point one four)
0.15(zero point one five)
8.02(eight point zero two)
3）百分数
这里要留意的是，百分数中最重要的是要读出百分号“percent”。
5% five percent
50% fifty percent
Thirty percent of the students are girls.门生中30%是女生。
进修小贴士：
百分比中不管几多，percent都不用复数！
2.生活中常见数字
1）温度
我们一般讲摄氏度：...°C = ... degree（s）centigrade
10°C(ten degrees centigrade)
-1 °C(one degree centigrade below zero)
The high temperature is 20 degrees centigrade, and the low temperature is 12degrees centigrade.最高气温20摄氏度，最低气温12摄氏度。
2）价格
群众帀 yuan币RMB
three yuan 三元
ten yuan 十元
美圆dollar /英镑pound
one RMB / yuan —元 /

★ yuan没有复数，而美圆dollar和英镑pound都有。
★问价格时一般用How much... ?
—How much is the hat?— 这顶帽子几多钱？
—20 yuan. — 20 元。
★描述一样工具代价几多，偶然也用cost。
The scarf costs 50 yuan.这条围巾 50 元。

我将坐17路汽车去公园。
5）电话号码
My telephone number is 54923402.
我的电话号码是54923402。
6）年、月、日的表达
①年
a.—般情况下，将暗示年份的四个数字按前后分为两组，读的时辰先读前两位，再读后两位，每一组的数字都按基数词来读。
1978——nineteen seventy-eight
1998——nineteen ninety-eight
b.假如前两个数字为非“零"数字，后两位数别离为“零"，则先读出前两位数，然后将前面的两个“零"读为hundred。
1800——eighteen hundred
c.第三个数字为“零"（其他数字不是“零"）的年份的读法该当将该“零”读为O。例如：
1806一eighteen o six

有两种比力常用的表达方式，一种较为具体和正式，一种比力简单。
9月10日
第一种：the tenth of September
第二种：September 10th （读作：September the tenth）
Teachers Day comes on September 10th every year.
教师节是每年的9月10日。
My birthday is on the twelfth of June.
我的生日是6月12o
7）时候
①o'clock来暗示整点，且可以省略
eight o’clock 8点钟
ten（o’clock）10点钟
I get up at six every morning.我天天早晨6点起床。
②按分钟的顺序间接写出时候。
Six forty 6点40
five ten 5点10分
③假如分钟数少于30分钟，也就不到半点，可用分钟+ past + 钟点暗示，其中past是介词，意义是“过了”
twenty past four 4 点 20 分（4 点过了 20 分钟）
eight past one 1 点 8 分（1 点过了 8 分钟）
④恰好半点
half past...
half past seven 7 点半
half past eleven 11 点半
⑤假如分钟数多于30分钟，也就是过了半点，可用（下一个整点差几分钟）+ to + （下一个整点）暗示，其中to是介词，意义是“差了”
8:35 twenty-five to nine （下一个整点是9点，所以8:35实在就是9点差了25分钟）
3:58 two to four （下一个整点是4点，所以3:58实在就是4点差了2分钟）
⑥当分钟数是15分钟时，可用名词quarter(一刻钟)暗示
7:15 a quarter past seven
12:15 a quarter past twelve
⑦若想表白是上午，可在时候后加上am或a.m.；若想表白是下午，可在时候后加上pm或p.m.
6：00 a.m. 上午6点
4：00 p.m. 下午4点

年、月、日和时候在利用时所跟的介词分歧：
It took place in 1978.事务发生在1978年。
I like to go travelling in September.
我喜畛刳9月份去旅游。
He will come back on the fifth of May.
他将在5月5日返来。
I arrived at half past seven.我七点半到那边。
固然，假如是问当下的时候大概日期，不用加介词。
——What's the date today?明天是什么日期？
